Morgana in Excalibur

There has been a lot of backlash against my friend Morgana in Excalibur. It was interesting for me to see her in her youth, before she was made so old and hideous. I've learned a lot from her--about magic and what not. But lets not forget--she learned from Merlin. She chose to use her powers quite differently...but is she solely to blame? like to think my own actions weren't as vengeful as hers. She is conniving, yes. But she is also very skilled in her manipulations. Many died on their quest to find the grail. That was their own curiosity, was it not? Is magic/Morgana alone to blame? I think not.

Of course, I always have the ladies in mind and I do agree that men should not be so silly to let a woman's beauty control them so much as Merlin did. Perhaps if men were not so easy to trick women like Morgana would not be seen in such a sour light. There is always two sides to every story and I feel that women often get the bad wrap because men are unhappy with the outcome. Merlin should've known better. He is the most skilled magician of his time and a prophet. I know that he can't foresee his own destiny... but honestly, Merlin, how many young, attractive women are interested in old, VERY OLD, magicians without expecting more? (And NO! Not that!)
Still, Morgana was awfully wicked with her magic. I think it's wicked women like Morgana that give the rest of us such trouble. This woman will stop at nothing to get what she wants, including tricking Arthur into sleeping with her. That's your brother, Morgana, sure it's your HALF-BROTHER but really?

I agree with Bertliak's Lady in her representation of Morgana as a strong female who the men could not control, thus she turned to magic and villainy to defend the honor of her mother and the death of her father all to satisfy the lust that Uther felt for a married woman. The true villains of Morgana's tale is Merlin and Uther, although Merlin's actions brought about the birth of our once and future king, the deception and indeed rape of Igraine should be held to account. Morgana's actions were misguided yet her intentions were pure and should be treated as such. Men such as Uther and Merlin who hold no marriage vow worthy, should meet their ends at the hands of such a lovely avenger....
